Above and beyond

Sculptuur van organische (hout) en industriële (beton) materialen die met perspectieven en contrasten speelt om de persoonlijke invraagstelling te prikkelen. Hoe stevig ook de betonnen basis, de opeenvolgende niveaus relativeren zijn duurzaamheid. Er is maar één weg, naar boven, via ladders die telkens nieuwe obstakels overstijgen, gebouwd zijn op steeds minder materie en uiteindelijk opgaan in het niets. De weg wortelt in de realiteit maar overstijgt deze (above) en heeft een richting, maar geen einde (beyond).

A sculpture made of organic (wood) and industrial (concrete) materials that plays with perspectives and contrasts to provoke personal introspection. No matter how solid the concrete base may be, the successive levels put its durability into perspective. There is only one path, upward, via ladders that continually overcome new obstacles, built on increasingly less material, ultimately fading into nothingness. The journey is rooted in reality but transcends it (above) and has a direction, but no end (beyond).
